Terms and Conditions

1. Acceptance of these terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Discovery Academy mobile application (the "App") or this website, you agree to these Terms and Conditions and to our Privacy Policy. If you are under your country's age of digital consent, please use the App with a parent or guardian's awareness.

2. Who can use the App

Discovery Academy is designed for learners aged 8–16. To use the App you must sign in with a Google account. The Google account itself is governed by Google's policies for account creation and age verification — we rely on Google for that.

3. Free tier and paid unlock

When you first launch the App, you choose one subject to use for free, forever. The remaining six subjects are locked until you complete the one-time in-app purchase described below.

4. In-app purchase

• Product: "Unlock the Universe" — unlocks all 7 subjects in the App.
• Price: US $9.99 (or local equivalent, as displayed in the App at the time of purchase).
• Type: One-time, non-consumable purchase. Not a subscription. We do not auto-renew, charge recurring fees, or charge any other amount.
• Processing: All payments are processed by Apple App Store (on iOS) or Google Play (on Android). We never see or store your payment details.
• Restoration: Your purchase is tied to your Google account. Sign in on a new device and tap "Restore previous purchase" on the unlock screen to recover access at no charge.

5. Refunds

Because we do not process payments ourselves, refund requests are handled by the platform you bought through:

• iOS purchases: request a refund via reportaproblem.apple.com per Apple's policy.
• Android purchases: request a refund via the Google Play Store within Google's refund window.

If a refund is granted, the App will revert to the free tier on next launch. If you experience a problem we can fix, please email us at support@discoveryacademy.app first — we will usually be able to help.

6. Acceptable use

You agree to use the App for personal, educational purposes only. You agree not to:

• Reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the App or its code.
• Tamper with quiz results, XP totals, or unlock state to gain access you have not paid for.
• Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) against the App or its backend services.
• Attempt to access another user's account, data, or progress.
• Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the App or any of its content.

If you violate this section, we may suspend or terminate your account.

7. Educational content

Discovery Academy's curriculum content (lesson text, quiz questions, explanations, illustrations) is provided for educational purposes. We work hard to ensure scientific accuracy and global inclusivity, but the content is not a substitute for professional or formal instruction. We make no warranty that the App will help you achieve any particular educational outcome.

8. Intellectual property

The App, its source code, design, brand marks, "Evo the Robot" mascot, lesson text, and quiz content are owned by Discovery Academy and protected by copyright and trademark laws. You receive a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the App and its content for your own learning. You retain ownership of your own progress data — you can export or delete it at any time (see our Privacy Policy).

9. Third-party services

The App relies on the following third-party services. Your use of those services through the App is also governed by their own terms:

• Google Sign-In and Google Firebase — see Google Terms of Service.
• Apple App Store — see Apple's Media Services Terms.
• Google Play — see Google Play Terms of Service.

10. Termination

You can stop using the App at any time and delete your account by emailing privacy@discoveryacademy.app. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms; we will notify you by email where reasonable.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

The App is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that all defects will be corrected.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Discovery Academy will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the App. Our total liability for any direct damages will not exceed the amount you actually paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (typically the one-time $9.99 purchase, if any).

Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under your country's consumer protection laws that cannot be excluded by contract.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction stated on our App Store and Google Play listings. Any dispute will first be addressed in good faith between you and us by email; if it cannot be resolved that way, the dispute will be subject to the courts of that jurisdiction (subject to mandatory consumer-protection rules in your country of residence).

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent change. For material changes, we will notify you in the App on next sign-in. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
